Marek Vorlíček (*1979 Domažlice) – chief choirmaster

Marek Vorlíček

After leaving school and undertaking private tuition in choral and orchestral conducting (Zdeněk Vimr, Václav Cibulka) he attended the Prague Conservatoire (Hynek Farkač, Miroslav Košler and Miriam Němcová) and subsequently also Prague’s Academy of Music. He also took courses in choral conducting headed by Winfried Toll.

In the years 1994–97 he was choirmaster of the Domažlice Children’s Monastery Choir, and since 1997 he has headed Čerchovan, a mixed choir also based in Domažlice, with whom he has performed dozens of a cappella and vocal-instrumental concerts, both at home and abroad, and recorded two CDs featuring sacred music (Šimon Brixi, Jakub Jan Ryba, Georg Lickl). For this project he won the national choirmaster’s prize awarded by the Czech Choral Union. He is also a church organist and respected organ builder. He was also choirmaster of Oratorienchor Schwandorf in Bavaria.

Since his Conservatoire days Marek Vorlíček has made guest appearances as a conductor with the Plzeň Philharmonic, with whom he has made several recordings for Czech Radio. He has also conducted the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice, the South Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic and PKF – Prague Philharmonia.

As a choral singer he had the chance to sing not only with the Kühn Choir of Prague under the excellent choirmaster Pavel Kühn, but also with the Prague Chamber Choir, the Prague Philharmonic Choir and with numerous leading Czech and world conductors and orchestras (Jiří Bělohlávek, Vladimír Válek, Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, the Czech Philharmonic, Prague Symphony, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin and Israel Philharmonics, among others).

In December 2006 he was named choirmaster of the Kühn Choir of Prague, with whom he has performed a number of a cappella and vocal-instrumental works (Dvořák, Martinů, Handel, Haydn, Orff) and made CD recordings of pieces by contemporary foreign composers, and also recordings for Czech Radio.
