Jaroslav Brych – choirmaster

Jaroslav Brych initially studied French horn with Otakar Tvrdý at the Pardubice Conservatoire, and subsequently conducting at Prague’s Academy of Music with Václav Neumann, Josef Veselka and Radomil Eliška. He also attended conducting masterclasses headed by Helmuth Rilling in Stuttgart. 

From 1984 to 1997 he was choirmaster of the Charles University Choral Ensemble, from 1987 to 1994 he was conductor and Chief Conductor of the Czech Army Symphony Orchestra, and from 1992 to 1993 he conducted the Opera Mozart company in Prague. In 1994 he was second choirmaster of the Prague Philharmonic Choir, in the years 1996–2005 its principal choirmaster, and from 2006 to 2012 he conducted the Prague Chamber Choir. 

Jaroslav Brych currently heads the Foerster Chamber Choral Association, he works with the Prague Philharmonic Choir, the Kühn Choir of Prague, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice and with other Czech orchestras. In addition to his orchestral and choral conducting commitments he teaches at the Prague Academy of Music, the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague and the Pardubice Conservatoire. 

Lenka Navrátilová (*Česká Lípa) – choirmaster

Lenka Navrátilová

Lenka Navrátilová studied piano with Jaroslav Čermák and harpsichord with Rudolf Zelenka at the Teplice Conservatoire, and choral conducting (sacred music) under Jiří Kolář and Marek Štryncl at Charles University’s Teaching Faculty in Prague. She is second choirmaster of the Kühn Choir of Prague, professor of opera accompaniment at the Prague Conservatoire, and she is also an accompanist for the Prague Philharmonic Choir.

As assistant choirmaster of the Prague Philharmonic Choir she has been involved in concert tours to Doha, Berlin and the opera festival in St. Gallen.

She has enjoyed long-term collaboration with the National Theatre Opera Company, the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the International Antonín Dvořák Vocal Centre in Karlovy Vary and, as harpsichordist, she also works with the ensembles Camerata Nova and Opera Mozart.

During her career Lenka has had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s finest conductors, such as Claudio Abbado, Sir Georg Solti, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Christopher Hogwood, Fabio Luisi, Jiří Bělohlávek and Jakub Hrůša.

She has also shared in the music preparation for non-operatic productions, among them Prague National Theatre’s A Walk Worthwhile (dir. Miloš and Petr Forman).
